How to Enroll

Enrollment at Handprints Academy is coordinated through your child’s school district. Because we are a Colorado Department of Education–authorized Facility School, we can only accept referrals directly from school districts. Families who believe their child may benefit from placement at Handprints Academy should begin by contacting their district’s Special Education Department or Out-of-District (OOD) Coordinator to discuss next steps.

Families are always welcome to reach out to Handprints Academy for general information about our program, available openings, or to learn more about the referral process. We’re happy to guide you through what to expect and help your district make the process as smooth as possible!

Referral Process

  • District Contact:
The student’s school district Out-of-District Coordinator contacts Handprints Academy at [email protected] and complete our student application form while also providing relevant documentation (such as the student’s most recent IEP, Behavior Intervention Plan, and any supporting evaluations).
  • Documentation Review:
The members of the admissions team review all records to determine whether Handprints Academy may be an appropriate fit based on the student’s profile and support needs.
  • Observation Coordination:
If appropriate, our team collaborates with the district to schedule an observation of the student – ideally in their current educational setting or an environment that reflects their typical day.
  • Family Tour & Discussion:
Following the observation, if our team believes the student could be supported successfully within our program, the family is invited to tour our school and learn more about our classrooms, supports, and transition process.
  • Final Decision:
Once the district, family, and Handprints Academy team are aligned, placement is finalized and a start date is determined.
